How can we help?

Why is proper humidity important?

Here in Colorado, we don’t have to worry about the issues of high humidity that affect much of the country, like mold, mildew and other contaminants that can grow in a home with humid conditions. However, too little humidity can cause problems as well. Overly dry air can cause wood and other materials to crack and splinter. It can also leave us with dry throats and nasal passages that lead to coughs. In addition to the problems mentioned above, too little humidity can affect your comfort level. Maintaining the proper balance is key. Homes should have between 30 and 45 percent humidity during summer months and between 25 and 40 percent humidity during the winter months. These levels provide comfort while not overworking your HVAC system.

How can humidity in my home be adjusted?

1. Measure your home’s humidity.
The first step is to get an accurate measurement of the humidity level inside your home. A wireless weather station is one way to monitor it.

2. Let Your Clothes Air-Dry
Save some energy, skip the dryer, and line-dry your clothes in your home on a drying rack. If you have the extra space, this is a great way to get more moisture into the air.

3. Put Bowl(s) Of Water On Top Of Registers
Simply place a metal bowl (or ceramic) on top of your floor register or a radiant heating unit. Depending on the current humidity levels in your home (and how much your heat is blasting) the water will evaporate into the air in your home. It can take about a week for the water to fully evaporate in a medium-sized metal dog bowl.

4. Leave The Door Open When You Shower
Let the steam escape from your bathroom and into the home be leaving the shower open when you shower.

5. Get A Few Houseplants
Houseplants can help in adding humidity to your home. How? Plants continuously release moisture from their leaves and stems of plants as vapor. This process is called transpiration and as long as you keep them watered, they will help aid in regulating humidity.

6. Do More Home Cooking
Specifically, stovetop cooking. The moisture released from cooking on the stove (like boiling water).

7. Use a humidifier if your humidity level is too low.
There are many different types of humidifiers, from portable single-room models to whole house models. If you are not sure what type is best for your home, Contact Gustafson Heating & Air.

WOW, what a great job Gustafson Heating and Air Conditioning did for my wife and I. They were professional, fast, and way less expensive than the others we looked into. We really appreciate what they did. It was in the winter when our furnace broke down and they replaced it immediately. They left our home clean and warm and we will appreciate the cool air this coming summer. THANK YOU Mike and your team!

I received a number of quotes to install a whole home humidifier. Gustafson was amazing from start to finish. I was able to handle everything over the phone without needing an additional in-person quote with a number of upcharges. I spoke to a gentleman who walked me through options by seeing pictures of my setup and was extremely knowledgable on what was necessary to ensure I was getting the correct humidifier for my home. The pricing was extremely competitive compared to the others and was not full of hidden charges. When I called, they were able to get an appointment set up within a week. The service tech was on time, courteous, cleaned up after himself, and walked me through the whole setup.

I got three quotes for a heat pump and gas furnace back-up. Gustafson’s was the most competitive. In addition, Mike McCarthy was, and is, a gem; very knowledgeable and responsive. The other Gustafson employees on the job were courteous and professional. I am very pleased with the equipment and the installation, which was a difficult one. I highly recommend Gustafson!

Gustafson installed our HVAC system in 2019 and have been so great with service! They’re honest and back up their work. Recently our A/C wasn’t cooling to the set temp. Todd was so kind & diligent in teaching us what to do as homeowners, but also servicing/cleaning the mechanics and we’re back to a nice, cool home just in time for higher temperatures!

Purchased a mini-split (AC / Heat Pump) unsure if I’d be able to install it or not. I installed most of it myself but there were a few technical procedures I didn’t have the expertise or tools to undertake. Dillon came out and finished the job, doing top-notch work and taking in account the aesthetics of the unit inside and out. Very reasonable price as far as I’m concerned. My new go to neighborhood HVAC company.

Basement flooded. This is where my WFH office is, so it was a big deal. Gustafson sent out Todd to fix it. He got it fixed quickly, and charged me a very reasonable fee. Basement is warm and dry now. I can’t say enough good things about Gustafson.

The technician “Luis” was fantastic as usual. All the services and technicians we have used with Gustafson over 12 years have been prompt, professional, timely and reasonable over the years. I definitely approve of this vendor!!!

Our furnace went out and our regular company gave us a 2 week window for coming out. We have a RHEEM furnace and needed an authorized RHEEM dealer. I called Gustafson and they came out in 48 hrs. They were so nice and the technician –Dylan–was so helpful that I am switching companies. Really a great experience.

Absolutely the best!!!! This is an honest company with very professional people working for them. The price for all work is always very fair and very reasonable!!!

I had the whole HVAC system installed by Gustafson about three years ago and recently requested maintenance on the system. Technician Robert Gomez was the tech that responded and he was very personable, easy to talk to, and explained what he was doing to me to service my furnace. I felt like I received thorough service and he provided advice for the future as well. Thank you, Robert!! I hope to be able to request you again in the future to do maintenance on my AC next spring.
